Family Portraits in Camas, WA

I went on a hike with a friend earlier this year and cut a shortcut across a field, when I stumbled upon the most beautiful field of blue lilies. Unhinged with joy I posted about it on my instagram asked if any of my clients were willing to book a last minute family shoot! These flowers bloom for only a week or two and so it had to be soon!

Carmen reached out to me that day and a plan was in action!

Can I just take a second and give her major props for not only figuring out beautiful flattering outfits for the whole family last minute, but also for showing me a shortcut to the field?! Talk about going above and beyond! I had a lovely time meeting them and their little ones, who as you will see, found me positively HILARIOUS. (just kidding, there may have been some parental tickling happening)

And as I drove home, sweaty and delirious with happiness that we could make this happen so last minute, I couldn’t help but think that family photos are so precious not just because they’re portraits of your FAMILY and you love them (most days), but because like the blue lilies, your babies are only little for a while. This season goes entirely too quickly. And all we are left with are the memories. And the photographs – your greatest treasure.

So while I understand booking a shoot can come with a certain level an anxiety, let this last minute quick and easy shoot serve as a reminder not to overthink it – this is about telling your family’s story! It shouldn’t feel stressful! It shouldn’t be a pain in the butt do get to. It should be you and your family making memories – actual fun, silly, adventurous memories.
