I know a lot of my clientele is return clients and therefore have a fairly good idea of what working with me looks like! But in case you’re new or just curious, I thought it might be worth describing how the experience goes, what to expect and how my work tends to come across!
Portrait-driven storytelling
Because I studied under modern portrait masters, like Sue Bryce and Elizabeth Messina, I tend to favor portraits – whether I’m shooting families, weddings, branding or seniors. There’s something so powerful about allowing each person to have breathing room in frame. I like to think of portraits as a storybook about the person I’m photographing, rather than just a snap of what they look like.
My goal is to capture what you FEEL like to the people that love you.
Empowering and authentic
Most of my clients describe working with me as “empowering”, which is absolutely one of my main goals. I want each person that works with me to feel confident, comfortable and beautiful in his or her own skin. I tend to do that by being very authentic and true to myself (nothing puts them at ease like a person that is relaxed, who genuinely likes themselves) and focusing on posing, giving loads of encouragement and feedback. In other words, I care deeply about how a photo makes YOU feel, not just what it looks like.
Photoshoots are fun
A big part of my style of shooting and engaging with my clients is focusing on helping you forget I have a camera pointed at you. Being nervous before being in photos is ABSOLUTELY normal and natural. But when you’re laughing with me, embracing the silliness of it all and allowing yourself to breathe, it comes across in photos. You can fake a lot in of things in photoshop but TWO things that cannot be compromised on are GENUINE EXPRESSIONS AND BODY LANGUAGE. So if the clients in my portfolio look confident and at ease, it’s because they REALLY are. They were having a blast and we captured that.
Light, warmth and natural aesthetic
MOST of my work – whether indoors or outdoors, focuses heavily on dreamy, flattering soft light. Golden light for the outdoors and window like lighting for the studio. This kind of light conveys warmth, feel-good energy and it puts the spotlight on YOU, the subject. For me it has always been and will be about connection and presence.
Intentional and personalized sessions
There’s a great deal that goes into a photoshoot for me. I love to chat with each client about what their needs are, where they want to shoot, what is important to them, how they want to come across, and so on. I ask a great deal of questions to build a map for our shoot. To me photoshoots are not a “one-size-fits-all” concept. Rather they are a perfectly curated story of who someone is and they wish to convey. Because of that, you’ll see a great deal of variety in my portfolio. Ultimately I don’t believe so much in creating a recognizable shooting style as much as I care about telling your unique story right: the way it deserves to be told.
